Death Star Found
Allegedly in May 2001 workers at a Whaling Station in Southwest Iceland were excited to find Peter’s bat – named Death Star. Originally floated out to sea during a moving ceremony aboard Frazer’s boat in 1992 the bat has now lost its handle and the workers use the remaining V shaped wood as a utility item for taking off boots. Quizmaster
Thursday pm. Supper in the Atlantic is followed by an evening introducing our new member (JPR) to the island hostelries. Flashing in a quiet corner in the Mermaid is The Quizmaster. JPR encourages us to attack it (not literally) as (quote) "we are men of high intelligence and cannot possibly lose." Yes, we can, and fail repeatedly. However, a run of correct answers develops and with a prize of £20 in our grasp, we face the final question which is 'How many gallons does a basking sharks heart pump per minute?" We are provided with a multiple choice of possible answers but are nonetheless stumped - in fact clueless. After a long pause Griff loses his patience and hits button A. We lose. [The answer is 10]. Spoof?
No one appears to know the simple rules of the game of Spoof. A friendly argument ensues after which those who do know the rules are convinced, they do not and vice versa. The result is rather than get eliminated we each try and stay in. Early in this competition of competitions Jim playing along with our rules makes a ridiculous shout, which turns out to be correct. Now eliminated he states, “I give up Tucks.” Eventually without a winner the pot is handed over to the kitty. Chilli Dog
At the Seven Stones we are joined by Dr. Wilson and Kipper. Kipper greets us by taking aim and firing a three-foot turbo charged water pistol shouting ‘sorry’ each time he hits a target. We run for cover like children. In this mayhem we are entertained by Chilli Dog and his acoustic guitar. “It don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime, he sings with gravely vocals. “I f**kin' love this!” Griff exclaims pointing at Chilli's precision fingertip movements over the fret of his instrument. When Chilli Dog is cooked and his instrument abandoned, we migrate to the Island Hotel. |
